About me

June 2021

The idea of Forget-Me-Not came about when my lovely Dad, Den, (or Grumpy to my children!) passed away earlier this year.

My dad was forever drawing, painting and making wonderful things (and my mum still is!) so I have grown up to have a love of crafting and making, as have my own children, and I wanted to move forward doing something in dads memory.

Initially, it was going to be a craft store, but after the last 18 months (COVID!) I felt strongly that small group socialising was a great way forward. Add to this the fantastic benefits to mental health that crafting can have, and the advantages to the community, it seemed the right and only way to go.

I’ve worked with children for many years, starting at an after-school club, then working in the classroom with children from 4-11 years of age, and also with children aged 3-4 years in a preschool setting. I am passionate about children being able to explore new arts and crafts.

This led to the idea of The Craft Den. So many children these days don’t have the opportunity to make and create the way we used to and crafting can do so much! The pride on a child’s face when they complete their craft is plain to see, and when their hard work is praised, it is also a great boost to their self-confidence. Being in small groups will also be an advantage, as while they will hone their skills of sharing and patience, they will feel less pressure to conform and can let their creativity flow!

And so onto the adult classes, well why should we miss out on the fun?

There has been much research into the benefits of crafting. Experts claim that crafting can help people suffering from anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Craft and wellbeing go together. Calm, relaxing crafting can give us time out from our busy, hectic, and, at times, chaotic lives. Give it a go. Learn to do something new, find your thing, meet new people, make something you can be proud of, and discover what you’re not so good at too!

I’m so excited about this new adventure and look forward to meeting you at Forget-Me-Not, thanks for taking the time to read all about it!

“Definitely recommend! lovely staff, great price, lots of choice for kids to paint. Thank you for another lovely visit!”

mOVING ON TO 2022

A whole year later, Forget-Me-Not evolved so much that we moved to a lovely big venue to house Forget-Me-Not Creativity and Wellbeing! The ethos remains the same – crafting for the whole community – but now encompasses so much more.

The Craft Den has proved to be a wonderfully creative experience for hundreds of children so far – long may it continue! Birthday parties are also available all through the year.

Our adult sessions have really taken off and we have thoroughly enjoyed meeting many crafters, both new to crafts and more experienced, to enjoy the benefits of group crafting over the last year.

This will carry on at Apex House and we look forward to greeting many more of you.

Little Oak Play Therapy is now based with us and offers fantastic support to families and children.

“Had a really great evening learning a new craft such a relaxed and knowledgeable environment. With fabulous results. Highly recommend Forget-Me-Not!!”
